Josh Windass was full of praise for Sheffield Wednesday teammate Barry Bannan for one brilliant thing he did after the draw against Watford.

Ultimately, plenty of uncertainty lies ahead for the club, whether it’s Danny Rohl’s future at Sheffield Wednesday, or the players, some of whom are nearing the end of their contracts.

One man who is not guaranteed to be around S6 in the long term is Josh Windass, something that Sheffield Wednesday fans won’t be too keen on, based on the fact that he has been a reliable asset in the front three for the Owls when fit.

If the draw at Watford was to be Windass’ final game donning the famous blue & white stripes, he got a perfect send off after what Barry Bannan did after the game.

However, all focus was put on Josh Windass following the game against Watford, in which he scored the goal to put Sheffield Wednesday into the lead. Aside from the scoreline, it was also a notable goal as it made him the top Owls goalscorer in the 21st century, something that Bannan reminded the squad of following the game.

“Baz just gave me a nice speech at the end there, saying that I’d become the highest scorer this century and gave me a little round of applause as well,” he said, per The Star. “That was a nice touch.

“He’s been incredible for me since I came in here, obviously not just setting me up with chances and playing well but setting me up off the pitch. We used to live close together, so we’d drive to training every day with general chit-chat. He’s been incredible.

“I just told the lads that I’m aware I’m maybe not the easiest teammate to play with sometimes! But the support has been incredible. All the lads were behind me trying to get me to score which was nice.”

Josh Windass deserves recognition for exceptional Hillsborough stint
It is unclear whether Windass will still be a Sheffield Wednesday player for the 2025/26 season, but if he has played his final game for the club, he undoubtedly deserves immense praise for what he has done for the club.

Staying at the club during the League One days, the Sheffield Wednesday attacker has been pivotal to the club’s more recent success, whether it’s the decisive headed goal to defeat Barnsley in the League One play-off final, or the catalogue of goals he bagged last season, including on the final day against Sunderland to help seal survival in the Championship.

With 31 goals and 13 assists to his name, Windass should go down as one of the most important players in this Sheffield Wednesday side in recent times, without a doubt.
