Brighton have ‘asked for information’ on cheap signing Fabian Hurzeler should know well..

Brighton and Hove Albion have ‘asked for information’ on St. Pauli youngster Marwin Schmitz but face fierce competition in Germany and from Juventus in Italy.

Tuttosport cover Juventus’ interest today, explaining that the Italian giants have taken notice of the midfielder, who many are comparing to Joshua Kimmich.

Schmitz turned 18 at the beginning of January and signed his first professional contract with St Pauli at that point, with that deal running until 2027.

Juventus don’t care about that and have already moved to try and get ahead of the competition for him, which is believed to be strong. Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Stuttgart and Leipzig have already knocked on the door for him.

Then there is Brighton in the Premier League, who have already asked for information about him as they continue their efforts to scoop up young talent around the world.

They would presumably know all about Schmitz given Fabian Hürzeler was hired from St. Pauli in the summer transfer window. The Brighton boss will have been aware of the rising talent during his time in charge.

Juventus may have an advantage, though, as Schmitz is tempted by an adventure in Italy and the idea of working through Juventus’ Next Gen set up. There are several shining examples, Dean Huijsen being at the top at present, of that being a smart move for youngsters to make.

The Italians see him as a ‘smart market opportunity’ as he can be signed for less than €1m, but the rising competition could see that change.

Ivory Coast Under-23 international Kone has been likened to Brighton’s Carlos Baleba for his style of play.

The young midfielder he has the second highest percentage of duels won across Europe this season for players under the age of 21.

Ligue 1 star Kone wanted by Liverpool and Man United
Kone has made 24 senior appearances across all competitions for Reims, who sit five points above relegation danger in Ligue 1 this term.

He has started in 16 of those outings after making his first-team breakthrough last season.

The Mali-born star, who turns 20 in May, is under contract at Reims until June 2028 after joining the club almost two years ago.

Meanwhile, Brighton star Baleba, 21, joined the Seagulls from Ligue 1 side Lille in 2023 and is now one of the Premier League‘s most promising midfielders.

Left-footed star Kone could follow in the Cameroon international’s footsteps should he make a move to England this summer.

Man United want stunning double deal
Meanwhile at Man United, Football Insider has revealed (29 April) that Ruben Amorim’s side are ready to sign an out-and-out striker as well as Wolves star Matheus Cunha.

The Red Devils have set their sights on a stunning double deal as they look to transform their faltering attack this summer.

United are ready to upgrade on disappointing striker duo Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee in the off-season.

All the latest transfer news and gossip for Brighton and Hove Albion and across the Premier League
Brighton have been urged to sign a player that almost joined Manchester United for around £40m last year.

Ajax striker Brian Brobbey has been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford in the past.

Erik ten Hag worked with Brobbey during his time at Ajax and the 23-year-old was offered to United in the previous January window.

The Red Devils – who parted company with Ten Hag – declined the opportunity and Brobbey remained in Amsterdam. The Ghana international has since struggled in the Eredivisie and has just four league goals to his name this season.

Despite his recent struggles, Brobbey remains highly-rated and has a pretty decent strike rate of 56 goals and 23 assists from his 161 outings for the Dutch giants.

Brighton could be in the market for a new striker – especially if Joao Pedro and Evan Ferguson exit this summer – although it’s unclear if Brobbey is on Albion’s radar.

Ex-Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart said: “He just has to leave Ajax. I don’t mean that in a bad way, but that connection is no longer there. I would like to see him in England. Brighton & Hove Albion for example. I really still believe in him.”
