Iliman Ndiaye credited Moyes’ half-time instructions as a big reason why the Toffees came out a much better side.

Speaking after the game, Arteta was quizzed about how the trip to Goodison on the weekend was different to facing the European giants.

“A completely different game, two different worlds of football and demands from the opposition, and you could sense they’ve been waiting for this game,” he said.

“The moment that we got the draw, there isn’t a team or a club that is going to motivate you for the right reasons, because they changed the history of the competition, and they are the best team by far in the competition, and our challenge and opportunity was to face them and try to beat them.”

Carlo Ancelotti praised Arteta leading up to the game at the Emirates Stadium, but he will not have expected to lose 3-0.

With speculation over his position in Madrid, the defeat on Tuesday night could well mark the beginning of the end at the Bernabeu for the 65-year-old.

Everton must take confidence from Arsenal draw
The tricky fixtures continue to roll on for the Blues as they face the high-flying Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

However, even with the Merseyside Derby loss, Everton are showing they are capable of giving any side a run for their money under the 61-year-old.

Moyes has instilled new confidence at Everton, with the Scot now looking like he has accepted the club are safe from the Premier League drop.

However, Everton cannot take their foot off the gas after building up significant momentum in the Premier League since January.

The Toffees have shown they can compete against the likes of Arsenal and there’s no reason they can’t do the same at the City Ground on Saturday.
