Former Georgia wide receiver Fran Brown of Syracuse football

Former Georgia wide receiver Jackson Meeks was just signed by new Syracuse coach Fran Brown in a major transfer portal move for the first-time head coach

After luring Fran Brown away from Georgia, the Syracuse football program is already reaping benefits. According to the most recent news, the Orange have signed wide receiver Jackson Meeks, a former Bulldog, through the college football transfer portal.

Meeks is a 6-foot-2, 205-pound pass-catcher from Phenix, Alabama. Brown was the defensive backs coach at Georgia for the first three seasons of Meeks’s collegiate career. He took to Twitter to announce his decision to sign with the Syracuse football team through the transfer portal.

Meeks had just 10 catches for 132 yards in his time in Athens. Za’Darius Smith, a linebacker for the Cleveland Browns, is Meeks’ uncle. GeorgiaDogs.com rates him as a three-star recruit out of high school, but he never quite materialized for the SEC heavyweight.

For the Orange, a team that has only had one 10-win season in the previous 20 years, the news that Fran Brown brought an SEC wide receiver to Syracuse is significant. The new head coach was hired due to his ability to recruit. He has previously held coaching positions at Rutgers, Baylor, and Temple.

Currently, Syracuse has the No. 12 2024 college football recruiting class in the ACC and the No. 52 class nationally, per 247Sports. This class is highlighted by four-star tight end Jamie Tremble from Georgia and three-star quarterback Ta’Ron Haile from Millville, New Jersey, which is right near Camden, New Jersey, where Brown is from.

Jackson Meeks is the first Syracuse commit from the 2024 transfer portal, but be on the lookout for more. Cornerback Smoke Bouie, who played directly for Brown in the Bulldogs’ defensive backfield is still uncommitted and would be a huge coup for the ‘Cuse
