Russell Wilson’s future is uncertain as Broncos head coach Sean Payton confirms Jarrett Stidham will start against the Raiders in the season finale.

Jarrett Stidham will start for the Denver Broncos against the Las Vegas Raiders in Sunday’s season finale at Allegiant Stadium, head coach Sean Payton officially announced on Monday morning.

Russell Wilson will be benched and Josh Stidham will start against the Los Angeles Chargers, Payton announced last Wednesday. According to Payton’s most recent update, Russell Wilson will start as the backup for Stidham in the season’s final game.

This move might mean that Russell Wilson’s time with the Broncos is coming to an end, particularly if the team chooses to cut him loose in the offseason. Wilson’s future is still up for debate, according to Payton, who also noted that owner/CEO Greg Penner and general manager George Paton will talk about roster decisions following the season.

In an attempt to bring Stidham into the starting lineup and provide the offense a “spark,” Payton had benched Wilson the week before. With no turnovers, Stidham led the Broncos to a 16-9 victory over the Chargers in his third career start in four years. He completed 20 of his 32 passes for 224 yards, including a touchdown pass to Lil’Jordan Humphrey for 54 yards. During the play, Humphrey demonstrated his versatility by breaking several tackles.

Payton complimented Stidham’s overall performance, highlighting his decision-making, ball security, and beneficial contributions to the team, despite a few missed opportunities in the red zone. The Raiders, who rank eighth in scoring defense and tenth in pass defense in the league, will provide a more difficult test in their impending matchup.

The Broncos are intent on finishing the season with a 9-8 .
