Here are five things to be aware of regarding Callahan:

For the previous five seasons, Callahan served as Cincinnati’s offensive coordinator.

Following his 2019 arrival to the Bengals, Callahan has contributed to Cincinnati’s development into one of the league’s elite offenses.

The Bengals offense was a major factor in the team’s 2021 run to the Super Bowl, but in 2022 they outperformed themselves on offense.

In 2022, Cincinnati’s offense ranked fourth in the NFL in terms of offensive DVOA, eighth in terms of total yards (360.5 per game), fifth in terms of passing yards (265.0), and seventh in terms of points per game (26.1).

Callahan’s experience working with Joe Burrow and his ability to establish rapport with other quarterbacks stem from the roles he held before accepting the Bengals coordinator position.

He worked alongside former Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford as the quarterbacks coach for the Lions in 2016 and 2017. Every season, Stafford would amass over 4,000 yards passing and finish in the upper half of several statistical categories.

In 2018, he moved on to play the same position for the Raiders, where he assisted quarterback Derek Carr in becoming the first player in franchise history to pass 4,000 passing yards.

In his first season as a graduate assistant at UCLA in football operations in 2006, Callahan gained his first coaching experience.

The following year, he would switch to working with the wide receivers at Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, California, where he eventually took on the roles of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

His first NFL opportunity came with the Broncos from 2010 to 2015, when he worked as an assistant in a variety of capacities, including offensive assistant, offensive quality control coach, and coaching assistant.

Callahan was a quarterback at one of the most illustrious high schools in the nation before he went into coaching.

Callahan attended De La Salle High School for two years and was a letter winner. He was a part of the team that set a national record with their 151-game winning streak, which propelled them to the top of the rankings.

He would go on to play quarterback as a walk-on at UCLA, a collegiate team in Southern California.

Bill Callahan’s father has been a coach for a long time and continues to do so.

Bill Callahan, an offensive line coach for the Browns, started his coaching career in 1980 as an assistant. He currently plays in the same division as Brian.

While Brian was attending UCLA, the father also served as the head coach of the Raiders for two seasons, in 2002 and 2003.
