Rangers and Leeds United transfer chain could impact Bristol City £300k windfall for midfield star

Han-Noah Massengo is reported to have turned down a move to Burnley which leaves Leeds United as favourites for the midfielder’s signature.

Championship clubs have just over a week to get their ducks in a row ahead of the return of the second tier in August.

First up for Bristol City is the visit of Preston North End as Nigel Pearson looks to improve on last season’s 14th-place finish over the campaign ahead.

On the transfer front, the talk around the Robins centres on a former midfielder as Sunderland are back in negotiations with Manchester United.

Rangers and Leeds United transfer chain to impact Bristol City

Former Bristol City midfielder Han-Noah Massengo has been in the headlines this week after reportedly turning down a move to Premier League side Burnley over fears of playing time.

The 22-year-old, whose contract expired at Ashton Gate this summer, now appears to be on the verge of Leeds United with the Yorkshire side said to be very keen to land the midfielder. Massengo may have left the club, but Bristol City could still be in for a £300,000 windfall from any move as a FA reward for helping the youngster develop since 2019.

However, transfer news from Scotland may cause Leeds United to look elsewhere and delay any Massengo deal to Daniel Farke’s side.

Scottish Premiership side Rangers are on the verge of signing Ecuadorian Jose Cifuentes from Los Angeles FC, which could free up a move for the Gers’ star Glen Kamara.

Leeds United are believed to have the £5 million Rangers man as a priority this window and, given that Kamara plays the same position as Massengo, the club’s interest in the former Bristol City talent could dissipate if Rangers are now willing to part with their midfielder.

Sunderland on verge of completing deal for Manchester United star

Sunderland are on the verge of bringing a young Manchester United talent to the Stadium of Light, but it’s not Amad Diallo.

According to ManhesterWorld, the Black Cats are ‘set to sign’ Red Devils’ goalkeeper Nathan Bishop as Tony Mowbray seeks competition for Anthony Patterson with both the side’s second and third-choice shot-stoppers leaving this summer
