Report on the match: Magpies hand Port their second defeat of the year

Collingwood has defeated Port Adelaide for the second time this season.

At the MCG on Saturday afternoon, Port Adelaide lost to Collingwood, their second loss of the season.

Late in the first quarter, Port Adelaide scored five of the first six goals to take a 31-point lead. However, the reigning premiers quickly gained momentum and won by 42 points.

After losing to Greater Western Sydney, Sydney, and St Kilda to begin the year, Craig McRae’s team scored eight goals in a row during the second quarter to rekindle their premiership defense, which was winless.

If the Magpies needed a boost from Easter Thursday, and the Gather Round escape maintained the momentum, Collingwood’s victory over a premiership has revived a season on the verge of collapse.

After a sluggish start, Nick Daicos finished with 30 disposals, 8 clearances, 14 score involvements, and 755 metres gained. This kind of performance is sure to draw attention on Brownlow Medal night.

While Will Hoskin-Elliott, Brody Mihocek, and Patrick Lipinski each scored two goals in a pivotal second quarter burst that turned the game and gave the season new life, Jordan De Goey and Tom Mitchell were busy at the coal face.

However, Collingwood appeared to be a shadow of the team that won everything the previous year when Jackson Mead scored Port Adelaide’s sixth goal twenty-four minutes into the first half. Zak Butters dominated the first quarter following aweek of discussions about his eligibility for the Brownlow Medal. He racked up 15 disposals, 318 meters gained, and a

In five minutes, Will Hoskin-Elliott pulled off two hangers, the first of which led to a goal at the upper end of the square. Two set shots were converted by Brody Mihocek. Following his fifth goal in a row, Patrick Lipinski dribbled a goal to put Collingwood ahead. Mason Cox then scored a set shot of his own. After the Sherrin quickly raced from midfield to the goal square, he added another minute later. Six consecutively. Return of the mojo.

Fearing a lackluster reply, Collingwood opened the score to eight goals in a row by kicking the first two of the second half, putting an end to any chance of a Power comeback.

Lachie Schutlz kicked two goals as the Magpies piled on five goals to two in the third quarter.

Power defender Miles Bergman rolled his ankle late but was able to return to the game, and Lachie Jones finished on the sidelines with ice on his hamstring.
