West Ham United transfer news as talks continue with Leicester City to sign Harvey Barnes
West Ham United are continuing in talks with Leicester City to sign forward Harvey Barnes this summer, according to 90Min.
Despite the Foxes’ disappointing relegation from the Premier League, Barnes enjoyed a fruitful and superb individual campaign scoring 13 goals from his 34 appearances.
Telegraph journalist Matt Law reported on 26 June that the Hammers were in pole position to land the Leicester City winger who is also valued at £40m, according to The Guardian [9 June].
However, according to 90Min [6 July], the race for Barnes’ services is certainly intensifying with rivals Newcastle United also joining the race and have also opened talks to sign him. The Guardian reported on 5 July that the Magpies are leading the race for Barnes’ signature
It is said that David Moyes is open to letting players go to freshen things up, too.
Difficult task now
Barnes is now expectedly attracting plenty of interest this summer given his apparent and stark attacking qualities from the left-flank and it’s easy to see why Tottenham and Newcastle have also been linked with his services.
After West Ham United were seemingly in pole position to land his services, the pursuit of their top summer target now looks incredibly difficult now after Newcastle’s interest and the report suggesting that the Magpies are now leading the race to sign him.
It will certainly be up to Barnes who he decides to go with, but given Newcastle’s impressive campaign last season, their stunning upward trajectory under Eddie Howe and the fact that they’ll be playing Champions League football next season makes them certain favourites over the other suitors to secure Barnes.
If the Hammers are to fire on all cylinders next season, they desperately need attacking options and Barnes is the best available candidate to drive them forward both domestically and in Europe – but it now seems as if Moyes will have to seek out other attacking targets.
