West Ham United transfer news as Nayef Aguerd stance shared amid Saudi Arabia interest According to Santi Aouna, Nayef Aguerd has turned down the opportunity to relocate to Saudi Arabia rather than West Ham preventing his release.

On Monday [4 September], GOAL SA announced through Twitter that Aguerd had been offered £8.55 million per year to join an undisclosed Saudi club.

West Ham are also unwilling to allow the defender leave this week since they are no longer able to sign a replacement.

However, Foot Mercato journalist Aouna said on Twitter on Monday [4 September] that the suggestion was rejected by Aguerd himself.

In response to a tweet implying that Aguerd was on the verge of joining Al-Ittihad, Aouna stated, “It was Nayef Aguerd who refused to go to [Saudi Arabia] and not the other way around.”

A powerful blow

Regardless of this latest update, you can be sure that talk tying key man Aguerd to the London Stadium exodus is far from over.

With the Saudi transfer window remaining open until Thursday [7 September], while Turkish clubs may conduct business for an additional week, this was always going to be an issue.

Assuming that West Ham is not paid a ludicrous amount of money, it is a no-brainer to reject any bids from Al-Ittihad or any other teams that come calling.

If the allegations of Aguerd being offered up to ten times his present wage are true, the Moroccan cannot be blamed for having his mind turned.

Fortunately, that does not appear to be the case.

As a fixture in the heart of United’s defense, losing Aguerd at any stage, let alone with the Premier League transfer season closed, would be a huge blow to David Moyes.

Let’s hope Aguerd has truly turned down the mega-money offer and remains faithful to the Hammers, if only until the new year, when the situation can be re-evaluated.

In other West Ham news, vice-chair Karren Brady has condemned the “vile” chanting she heard during the match against Luton Town.
