Ipswich Town have made an impressive return to the Championship.
Following their promotion back to the second division, Kieran McKenna’s squad has demonstrated its promotion credentials in the early stages of the season.
The Suffolk team has arrived prepared for the quality jump that comes with promotion from League One.
The summer transfer window provided an opportunity for the recruitment team to bring in a number of players to assist, with the likes of Jack Taylor and George Hirst arriving on a permanent basis.
Loan deals for Brandon Williams and Dane Scarlett were also agreed upon, bolstering McKenna’s squad options.
Who might leave Ipswich Town in January?
However, their recent form is certain to attract interest, and the January transfer window could be problematic for Ipswich.
Here, we look at the players that could depart the Championship side in the winter transfer window…
Cameron Humphreys
Humphreys is yet to play for McKenna’s team in the Championship this season.
The forward has appeared in all of the team’s EFL Cup games, but he is still on the outside looking in at Portman Road.
While it would be premature to sell the 19-year-old on a permanent basis, a loan deal should be sought in January to boost his development.
Humphreys made 17 appearances in League One last season, providing two goals and one assist, and could benefit from going out on loan to obtain more senior experience.
The teenager has a lot of promise, but he needs to play consistently to make the most of it, something he won’t be able to do if he stays with Ipswich in the second half of the season.
George Edmundson
Edmundson suffered an injury late in the previous season, causing him to miss the last weeks of the team’s promotion success.
His most recent Tractor Boys league debut was a 1-1 draw against Cambridge United in February.
In August, the 26-year-old returned to full health, appearing in the team’s 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers in the first round of the EFL Cup.
However, his only minutes in the team after promotion in May have come from two more cup matches.
That could cast some question on his future at Portman Road as the January transfer window approaches, as he may seek greater playing time elsewhere.
Lee Evans
Evans has made one Championship league appearance this season, coming off the bench in the final stages of their 3-2 win over Cardiff City.
The midfielder has been a continuous presence in McKenna’s side during their run to the EFL Cup fourth round, but regular game time in the league has been difficult to come by.
The 29-year-old has dropped far down the Championship side’s pecking order, so a January departure would make sense for both parties.
