Florida High two-sport standout with an FSU football pledge Danzy is recuperating from a thigh injury.
Coach Jarrod Hickman of Florida High is unsure whether outstanding senior running back Micahi Danzy will return this season.
Danzy, who verbally committed to Florida State last July, has missed the Seminoles’ previous two games due to a left thigh ailment.
“He’s out indefinitely right now – we’ll just have to wait and see,” Hickman told the Democrat on Saturday.
“Micahi has a bright future and we are going to do what’s best for him.”
Danzy, a nationally recognized sprinter, was hurt in the Seminoles’ 31-28 victory over Ocala Trinity Catholic on September 29.
He has missed the last two games, a 37-7 loss to Tampa Carrollwood Day on Oct. 6 and a 35-7 victory over Godby on Friday.
The Seminoles (5-2) have been plagued by injuries this season, with as many as seven starters missing games.
“It’s just been a weird year in terms of injuries,” remarked Hickman.
Micahi Danzy rushed for nearly 2,000 yards and won two Class 2A sprint titles last season.
As Florida High, a Class 2S state finalist in 2022, enters the last month of the regular season, Danzy’s output will be difficult to replicate.
Danzy rushed for nearly 600 yards and averaged 9.5 yards per carry with 1,809 yards and 17 touchdowns last season.
Danzy, a 6-foot-1, 175-pounder, is the reigning Class 2A state winner in both the 200 and 400-meter dashes, as well as the USATF National Junior Olympic winner in the 400.
Danzy chose the Seminoles over offers from Florida and Miami, among other schools. He’s one of two running backs in FSU’s 2024 signing class, which is ranked sixth in the country by recruiting analysts.
Danzy entered the season as the 191st-best prospect in the country, according to 247 Sports, and the 13th-best prospect in the state.
“He is a player that can flip the field in one play or score from anywhere on the field,” Osceola recruiting analyst Patrick Burnham said.
“While he is listed as an athlete, we project that Danzy will used primarily at running back but is versatile enough to be used the same way (current FSU running back) Lawrance Toafili is now.”
Florida High plays Rickards at home on Friday before wrapping off the regular season against fellow District 3 member Marianna and Lincoln.
The Seminoles are 2-0 in District 3 after victories over Godby and Gadsden County.
