There’s some welcome news for the West Ham midfielder hunt with Edson Alvarez deal ‘ready to be done after talks’ claims a new report.

West Ham have a Declan Rice shaped hole to fill in their midfield.

And as reported on Hammers News earlier, West Ham are prioritising that position for their next signing after the reported imminent arrival of attacker Carlos Borges.

A board confidant claimed yesterday that West Ham are seriously struggling to get any other deals remotely close despite the new season being just three weeks away.

There has been a positive development for the Hammers, though, it seems.

Because there’s welcome news for the West Ham midfielder hunt with Edson Alvarez deal ‘ready to be done after talks’ claims a new report.

The Mexico and Ajax midfielder is an absolute destroyer who many feel would complement Lucas Paqueta perfectly.

Unlike Rice, the Mexican is more focused solely on his defensive duties, which will give Paqueta much more freedom to focus on creating and scoring.

West Ham were recently reported to be ramping up their pursuit of Alvarez and it was reported last weekend that a bid for the Ajax ace was imminent.

That was followed by claims that West Ham are confident of getting a deal done for the 25-year-old.

‘West Ham are confident of landing him’

Now Football Insider claim a deal can now be done between West Ham and Ajax for Alvarez after talks with his representatives.

“West Ham are confident of landing Ajax star Edson Alvarez for between £35-40million this summer, sources have told Football Insider…” the report states.

“It is believed talks are ongoing with the player’s representatives – who have indicated the 25-year-old would be interested in a Premier League move.”

The report does also warn the Hammers are likely to face competition for the midfielder.

Alvarez is celebrating after winning the Gold Cup with his country last weekend.

And a BBC journalist noticed something that will interest West Ham fans during their final victory over Panama.
