Ex-Sunderland defender signs two-year deal with Burnley after time at Manchester United

Logan Pye, a former Sunderland defender, has joined Burnley.

Logan Pye, a former Sunderland defender, has joined Premier League team Burnley, it was announced today.

The Wearside-born left-back progressed through the Academy of Light before joining Manchester United in the summer of 2020.

However, following a successful trial, the 19-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the Clarets and will join the under-21 team at Turf Moor, bringing his time at Old Trafford to an end.

While the Academy of Light kept its Category One accreditation in 2020, Stewart Donald and Charlie Methven permitted some promising young stars to depart.

Luca Stephenson, Joe Hugill, Sam Greenwood, Bali Mumba, Francis Okoronkwo, and Pye were among those that departed. Many supporters and analysts felt the club’s academy was moving in the wrong way as a result of the mass exodus.

Last season, Manchester City great Vincent Kompany led Burnley to Premier League promotion from the Championship.

Burnley are ‘in talks’ with AC Milan’s Divock Origi, according to Sky Sports writer Michael Bridge, after manager Vincent Kompany made a vital choice.

Since securing their return to the top division, the Clarets have not been reluctant to lavish the cash, with nearly £100 million spent on reinforcements ahead of the fast-approaching 11pm deadline.

Divock Origi has joined Burnley on a free transfer.

According to MailOnline, Burnley is competing with Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest and Fulham to sign Origi in the last hours of the summer transfer season.

According to the source, AC Milan may let the Belgium international, who scored 41 goals while on Liverpool’s books, to go on to greener pastures after struggling to gain regular game time at the San Siro.

Burnley and Forest are said to have increased the ante in their chase by holding talks with Origi’s representatives about a potential loan deal on Thursday, while he is set to fly into the nation after finalizing his departure.

West Ham United and Crystal Palace have also expressed interest in the striker in the previous week, with talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook recently telling GIVEMESPORT that the former may make a move.

Origi, who earns £87,000 a week at AC Milan, has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter since joining the Serie A giants.

In reality, he has only made 36 appearances for his current club, finding the back of the goal twice in that time.

What did Michael Bridge have to say about Origi?

Bridge believes that Burnley are discussing the potential of loaning Origi out for the duration of the season.

The Sky Sports reporter is aware that Clarets manager Kompany has decided to initiate talks with the 28-year-old due to his admiration.

“Burnley are in talks with AC Milan about loaning Divock Origi,” Bridge told GIVEMESPORT. It would be a loan transaction.

“He is currently in Italy, awaiting permission to fly.” Vincent Kompany is a huge supporter.”

What is next for Burnley?

Burnley have moved a step closer to bringing Ian Maatsen back to Turf Moor, with a £31.5 million fee agreed with Chelsea, according to transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian writer claims the west Londoners will have a sell-on provision in the contract, but the left-back, who has been refusing to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge, has not given the go-ahead to make the move.

Maatsen was instrumental in Burnley winning the Championship last season, contributing 10 goals in 42 games during a profitable loan spell.

West Ham are among the clubs interested in the 21-year-old Dutchman due to his form at Turf Moor.
