Newcastle are set to hold contract discussions in order to avoid losing a key player for free in 2024, according to reports.

Newcastle are planning to hold contract discussions with Fabian Schar, whose current agreement expires next summer, according to Football Insider.

The 31-year-old has been a cornerstone of our defense since Eddie Howe arrived, and he was crucial in our effort to qualify for the Champions League last season.

In an amazing season, the former Deportivo La Coruna man started 36 of a potential 38 Premier League games and is currently in his sixth year on Tyneside.

Some supporters and experts have noticed that in order to become one of Europe’s great clubs, we may need to upgrade our right-sided center-half.

However, even if we do upgrade, the Swiss international is more than capable of holding down the position this season and would be a terrific backup option to have in the future.

I believe that if we “upgrade,” the person coming in will be better than him, therefore I’m not sure how he’d be able to keep the post.
If we do decide to upgrade, he’s an excellent backup.
