If 777 Partners completes their buyout, Everton might sign Kalvin Phillips in January.

Everton could reconsider signing Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips in January if 777 Partners complete their takeover of the Toffees, according to iNews. The newspaper reported on its website on Tuesday (10 October) that Sean Dyche’s side could be interested in signing the former Leeds United midfielder in January, having attempted to lure the England international to Goodison Park during the summer.

Phillips has fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium and will be allowed to depart, but whether or not Everton can afford him depends on whether or not 777’s takeover is granted.

A summer transfer was considered, but financial constraints at the time made it practically difficult to fulfill, which may change very soon.

Excellent move.

Everton needs quality signings in January to transition from a relegation-threatened squad to one that is comfortable in the middle of the Premier League table, and Phillips would be just that.

The 27-year-old has struggled since joining Manchester City’s ranks, but he is still a more than capable player; he simply hasn’t had the opportunity to show everyone just how excellent he can be when allowed time to express himself on the pitch.

He was undoubtedly one of Leeds’ greatest players during their Premier League tenure, and he would be a valuable addition to Dyche’s midfield, offering a different type of profile than any of the players already in place at Goodison Park.

However, whether or not 777 Partners’ buyout will be completed in time for the January transfer window remains to be seen. These procedures take time, and the Toffees may find themselves in a race against the clock to complete the signing of the 27-year-old.

Dyche will hopefully be able to recruit the Manchester City midfielder, which would be a significant step towards Premier League survival.

In other Everton news, Dyche expressed delight that the Toffees have finally matched their xG this season.
