WARRINGTON Wolves faced Golden Point heartbreak after they were defeated 24-20 by Salford Red Devils in a dramatic top-six match.

Salford fumbled a high ball and Matty Nicholson scooped it up to score after only three minutes, with Stefan Ratchford converting the extras to make it 0-6.

On eight minutes, the hosts felt they had scored, but the video ref declared No Try for Salford’s Deon Cross.

Warrington’s chance to be disappointed came on 19 minutes, when Ratchford went over but the try was ruled out for a forward pass in the build-up play.

Salford drew level on 23 minutes thanks to a Ben Hellewell try converted by Marc Sneyd, and then seized the lead on 31 minutes thanks to Brodie Croft, with Sneyd converting once again to make it 12-6 at half time.

Warrington equalized 44 minutes after the restart when Ken Sio delivered a high kick to the corner and Ben Currie capitalized with Ratchford on target once more. On 54 minutes, Ratchford added a penalty goal following a high tackle on Matty Nicholson to make the score 12-14.

Salford responded on 64 minutes with a try for Brodie Croft, which Sneyd converted to make the score 18-14.

On 70 minutes, George Williams combined with Dufty to score, and Ratchford’s conversion put Warrington ahead again. Sneyd scored a penalty goal with the clock winding down to tie the game 20-20 heading into the last 5 minutes!

As the game entered the golden point, neither team could add to their total.
Sneyd struck the upright with a drop goal attempt in the 83rd minute, and then in the 84th minute, Sam Stone broke Warrington’s heart with the match-winning try to make it 24-20 and end a thrilling encounter.
